The Federal Work-Study Program provides jobs for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay education expenses. The program encourages community service work and work related to your course of study. To be eligible, a student must apply early due to the limited nature of funding. Application must be made prior to the March 1st priority date to receive work-study funding.
Pay rates vary according to the type of job you obtain. The least you will be paid is the current minimum wage rate. Off-campus positions pay a slightly higher wage rate due to travel expense, which is incurred by the student.
Your award amount will be made to allow you to work 12 to 15 hours per week. This is an average workweek and may vary depending on other obligations a student may have related to academic requirements. The maximum a student can work on-campus is 20 hours per week.
There are several types of jobs both on-campus and off-campus.
On-Campus Jobs - Jobs are available for most departments around campus. Students who are awarded work-study and are interested in on-campus jobs will be provided with a listing of openings. Over 800 different positions are available in a variety of settings.
Off-Campus Jobs - Two main categories of jobs exist in this category:
